Serving as county councilman over the past 4 years has given me a much greater awareness of the issues and opportunities available to make my district and the entire county a much better place to work and live. A second term would enable me to continue the unfinished business of increasing the openness and transparency of county government; improving housing, business, employment, education and training opportunities in the community; and enhancing our essential infrastructure to improve the quality of life for all residents – roads, water quality and reliability, affordable and dependable electrical power, recreational opportunities, and law enforcement and fire protection services.
My Background
My 34 years of Federal government service, and 9 years as SLV’s corporate secretary and member of the Board of Directors have allowed me to use my background in public policy and finance, program analysis and evaluation, and supervision and management to good effect as a county councilman. My education includes an undergraduate degree in economics, a year of graduate work at the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Government, graduation from USDA’s Executive Development Program and completion of dozens of specialized training programs in both program and administrative sciences. Since becoming a councilman, I have completed more than 30 hours of additional training provided by the SC Association of County’s Training Institute and a year-long program from the SC Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Institute.
On a personal basis, my wife – Ellen – and I have two children and two grandchildren. We have been property owners at SLV since 1991 and residents since 2004; are members of the First Assembly of God Church in Lincolnton and the Thurmond Lake Sail and Power Squadron; and enjoy golfing, boating and fishing.
A more complete enumeration of my professional and personal accomplishments may be reviewed on the MCRP website.
My Pledge
I promise to fairly and impartially represent all of my constituents and the citizens of McCormick County, regardless of their political persuasions, and to use the best of my ability to fully and faithfully resolve their problems and answer their questions on any public service issue that comes before me.
