I am David Morrah III, and I come from a family of hard-working people who believe in God, family and community. My parents and grandparents are from McCormick County. I have been here all my life and have seen the drastic changes in our beloved county.
I am a firefighter with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, and with the Little River Volunteer Fire Dept. I have been with the Savannah Lakes Village maintenance department for 14 years and I help the SC Governors School at John De La Howe campus with their maintenance and mechanical issues when needed. But my most favorite “job” is being a father. My son is 9 years old. He attends McCormick County schools. A stronger County Council can help the school board make huge strides toward improving the performance of our schools, without burdening our taxpayers with such high school taxes. Our children are our future.
My number one concern for McCormick County is the safety and wellbeing of its residents. To include the funding of the EMS, Fire services and Law Enforcement. These three priorities can be addressed without piling more taxes on the tax payers.
I am also very focused on the water and sewer situation. There has been enough of the unsuccessful trial and error of contracting our water and sewer systems, and it is evident that a better plan needs to be implemented – one that we know is tried and true for our county and surrounding counties.
These are just a few things that I have in mind. I have spent a lot of time going over the issues of the county. I am committed to bringing our public safety, infrastructure and schools up to standard. And pursuing economic development opportunities more aggressively for our county.
Decades of the same county leadership have given us decades of decline. It’s time to change that. The families and children in our county deserve better. We can make McCormick County great again, but it will require a change in county leadership. I am ready for the job. I look forward to working with other like-minded council members to get us pointed in the right direction and across the line of success.
I ask for your vote for County Council District 1.
